Welcome to Learn with Shamu

"Learn with Shamu" is a program designed to help young children and their families understand how we can take better care of our world and better care of each other at the same time.

SeaWorld has always been a destination and resource for kids of all ages. But “Learn with Shamu” has been created with focus on the youngest of our guests – those extraordinary, inquisitive and wondrous people ages one to five. By sharing stories of positive relationships between animals and people, “Learn with Shamu” aims to transform a child’s natural fascination with animals into a desire to connect with and care for all the creatures (human and otherwise) in their lives.

When visiting SeaWorld, many of our guests are fascinated and intrigued by the interactions between our animals and our animal trainers and animal care experts. How could a human possibly develop a positive relationship with a 6,000 pound killer whale? The answer: Very slowly. But the same approaches and techniques used at SeaWorld have applications to how we all interact with each other and the world around us.

Of course, we acknowledge that humans of any age are quite different from killer whales, dolphins, sea lions and every other non-human species with whom we share the earth. But as parents ourselves, we at SeaWorld thought your fascination with how we interact with the animals in our care served as a great conversation starter for something bigger – how we all interact with each other and the world we share. This was the simple inspiration for “Learn with Shamu.”

Through stories of animals and our interactions with them, the “Learn with Shamu” program aims to:

Engage and enrich toddlers and preschoolers, increasing their understanding of animals, how we’re all connected, and simple actions we can all take.

Help parents and educators to positively interact with young children as they help them learn and grow. So come “Learn with Shamu” and each other by exploring this site and its resources and connections.

Sincerely,

Your friends (& fellow parents) at SeaWorld
